Commercial Umbrella & Excess Liability
A Commercial Umbrella provides liability coverage to an insured over and above the basic liability limits afforded by the insured's primary and underlying liability policies. Umbrellas typically afford coverage for exposures that may be uninsured under an insured's primary policies.
Commercial umbrellas are typically written at limits of $1, $2 or $5 million, require minimum underlying limits of insurance and sit excess of an insured's business automobile and commercial general liability policies. Commercial umbrellas may be layered on top of one another to achieve even higher limits of protection.
Excess Liability policies are very similar to commercial umbrellas in that they respond with coverage after the limit of an underlying policy is exhausted. Excess liability policies likewise may be layered on top of one another.
